Marine Industries Northwest

Past Projects

When Western Pioneer of Seattle wanted three vessels converted to refrigerated freighters, they contracted Marine Industries. The results were the Sally J, the Redfin and the Yellowfin, three fully refrigerated, cargo freighters that have distinguished themselves in the Alaska trade.

One of a series of four 124' fishing vessels built by MINI, the U.S. Dominator is powered by a 1450 hp B & W Alpha engine. Built with a capability for later conversion to a trawler, the Dominator features controllable pitch prop and a Kortt nozzle propulsion system. Others in the series include the Flying Cloud, (propelled by a Caterpillar engine), the Aleutian Mistress and the Great Pacific which was built as a combination trawler/crabber with full refrigeration.

MINI works with many major companies in the tug and barge industry. Examples of projects include: the re-engining of the Carol and Shannon Foss for Foss Maritime, and various barge and tug conversions for Crowley Maritime.

Marine Industries does many of the dockside repairs and alterations to Washington State Ferries, and vessels of the US Navy, Army and Coast Guard.

MINI's background in metal fabrication has been used in various other projects.

Responses and performance are important aspects of voyage repair to merchant ships frequently performed by MINI. Totem Ocean Express, Inc. , Sealand and MARAD are repeat customers.

This Foss vessel is one of two deck barges converted to self-unloading ore concentrate lightering vessels at MINI's yard. It is an example of the kind of high quality projects that MINI specializes in. This project was completed on time and within budget, enabling Foss to meet its' obligation for the first operating season.
