Facilities

At MINI we take great pride in our steel work. The overall appearance of our work is excellent, and a close inspection will reveal those proper marine details such as the wrapping of welds around sniped cutouts, etc. It is this kind of attention to detail that seperates us from other yards.

Our key boilermakers have been with the company since it's beginning, and their pride and name go into the work they turn out. Our boilermakers perform all of the tasks of welding, fitting, burning, rigging, and staging without the cross craft restrictions present in the bigger yards. Our welders are certified to USCG and ABS standards.

The many different systems present aboard today's vessels and barges require a great variety of pipefitting skills and experience. At MINI we have the experience and skill required to complete this type of work - from 18" welded petroleum piping in tank barges to stainless steel control tubing on propulsion systems. Regardless of the simplicity or complexity, all of the finished piping jobs share a neatness and high degree of professionalism.

The electrical group in our yard enjoys an excellent reputation in the industry. The capability of our electricians covers all the normal shipboard power, lighting, communication and control systems, with the aditional ability to handle the unusual.

Our carpenters don't just build blocks for the ways and make shipping crates. At MINI, we are fortunate to have a small nucleus of skilled carpenters that have had training and experience on traditional wooden vessels. Plank replacement, sistering of frames, and caulking are some of the traditional skills possessed by our carpenters. From two by four furring to carved name boards; from bin boards on Foss wood chip barges to the repair of the Navy's mine sweepers; our carpenters are up to the task.

The fabrication, machining and installation of custom parts to support our conversion and repair work are accomplished by our machinists in our machine shop. They handle shaft work and alignments, propeller removals and installation, and steering system repair associated with our dockings. In addition, our machinists handle dockside repair on the Tote vessels and new equipment installation on conversions.
